E-books & Public Libraries
CPI Library and Information Policy Seminar, Stamford, Thurs 29 November 2001
This seminar will put the prospects and potential role of e-books under the
microscope in the context of public library services. The focus will be on
the strategic and policy dimensions rather than specifically practical or
technical issues. Contributors will explore the opportunities and challenges
for public libraries.
Key issues include technologies and standards, rights and licensing, charges
and lending restrictions, how e-books will change the publishing industry,
and how they might affect public library services and practices. Policy
development, national initiatives, negotiation with producers, and
collaboration will be explored.
Opportunities are built in throughout the programme for discussion and
debate.
