Paul, Thanks, Have you used a drawing software appl. that you can
recommend?
What is a vector map? My map knowledge is rather limited, I just joined
this listserv.
Thanks ,
Peggy

There is a free vector world map available on sites such as www.esri.com.
You will need additional software to display the data and/or export it to a
drawing package, but there are freeware viewers available on the same
web-site. Another possibility is http://www.remotesensing.org/proj/ -
primarily a map projection package, but includes a world coastline.

Hi,
You will also need a scanner perhaps if you cannot find a world map
on the web (not a difficulty with your search engine) However,
scanned images are much better for tracing/copying as bit maps. I
use Macromedia Freehand to trace over on my VDU and redraw land area
for 'other' forms of illustration. the Adobe Illustrator is 'almost'
as good - not wishing to offend those that use it :~)

Hello Mapsmart People,
Not being a desktop publisher extraordinaire, I only have a vague
knowledge of Photoshop, which has been recommended to me as what I
need to
buy to solve an issue.
Issue:
I need to locate a digital noncopyrighted world map,
capture/download it, and then be able to
bullet countries where a client owns assets in. Or, the other option
that
appeals to me is to color code those countries where each client
(there will be
many) owns assets in.
Finding a map that is country border defined AND blank (white)
seems problematic. And, finding the way to
manipulate it to be able to bullet certain countries or color code
countries
is not readily apparent.
Someone has said that I should use Photoshop for the coloring in
part.
Still, spending about $565.00 (per Amazon for v.6) for a software
app. to be able to manipulate a
map, as described, sounds a little high (or maybe I'm just
inexperienced
here).
Is anyone aware of another
a digital World Map that has all the country borders defined, but, is
in white?
If I don't find a white map, will Photoshop ( or some other software
I'm not aware of but you are) allow me to color over the predefined
colors on the map to obtain the custom maps I'm needing to make?
Thanks in advance.
