medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Droge and Tabor's _A Noble Death_ gives a resolutely
secular, but nonetheless informative, precis of OK vs.
not-OK suicide; they specifically invoke Samson - and
also Jesus - as examples of sorts of suicide. Their
position is a kind of critique of Church teaching on
the subject, i.e. skewed and relative to
circumstances. A serious student of the subject would
do well to consult their work if only to refute parts
of it.
