medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Colleagues,
While reading a bio of Talleyrand, I came upon a
reference to a special pallium, unique to bishops of
Autun as successors of Syagrius (sp?) and woven from
wool of sheep raised at Saint-Agnes-outside-the-walls
at Rome. Does anyone know anything of this tradition?
What connection is there between Syagrius and
Saint-Agnes...? The tradition allegedly dates to the
5th century.
Thanks,
MG
