medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Margaret,
I would second Otfried's suggestion of the Paden article. Stephen Ferruolo also covers some of the masters writing poetry in their youth in Paris in the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries and their ambivalent attitudes toward the liberal arts (The Origins of the University, Stanford, 1985), as does John Baldwin's Masters, Princes and Merchants (esp. 1:77-83). Baldwin has also written an article on moral theologians' attitudes toward troubadours and actors which I believe appeared within the last two years in _Speculum_ .
Sincerely,
Jessalynn Bird
