medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Is anyone aware of any medieval theories that connect the payment of tithing
to the Ten Commandments? I do not mean that the 10 Commandments command
that tithing should be paid, but that the reason a tenth of one's goods are
given is because there are Ten Commandments. Also connected with this is
the reason that there were 10 plagues on Egypt. I have found a reference to
this in an Irish penitential text and am wondering if it is wide-spread or
not. I have never seen it before.
Thanks,
Philip Rusche
