medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Friends,
I'm banging my head on a wall searching for a quotation from Aquinas. The
quotation, which I memorized in graduate school because I like it so much,
runs thus:
"Every creature has a perfection peculiar to itself, and that perfection
consists in attaining the end God has ordained for it."
I am nearly certain that this line occurs in ST Ia q 22 or 23, but for the
life of me I cannot find it. It is possible that I have scrambled it, or
that I manufactured it as my own summary of Aquinas's doctrine of
providence. But I'm not ready to give in.
Does anybody who knows Aquinas better than I, and whose eyes are not bleary
from looking, recognize this quotation?
