medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Yes but. We also have the problem of what might be best represented on the web.
Over there at the Bibliotheca Augustana, Ulrich Harsch gives unaccented Greek
and it is enough for us all to pick our way through. At The Latin Library, Bill
Carey gives us shreds of Greek which are simply transliterated (adequately or
inadequately -- but this is OUR problem in reading the Latin). As an occasional
e-texter, I know the problems and have no satisfactory answer until our
web-masters agree on a norm ("come ye, happy day, from thy labour's rest"! -- a
Benjamin Britten arrangement with Peter Pears).
But yes, when we publish on paper (a superior medium), this question becomes
important. I've crunched stuff in all sorts of languages and given my
type-setter hell. It's a swine.
Shurely 'Philobiblos' is an invented name? Like Caecilius Balbus? Now, what's
the Latin for "Wensleydale"?
