Joint Tectonic Studies Group & Petroleum Group Meeting
Oil and Gas in Compressional Belts
10/11 September 2002. Burlington House
First announcement of discussion meeting
This discussion meeting aims to be a forum for presenting breaking research
in the structural geology of rocks which have experienced layer-parallel
compression. It will focus on the current, and potential future, integration
of structural geology within petroleum exploration and production projects.
New results and concepts will be discussed from established compressional
petroleum provinces such as the Rockies, Andes, Zagros and Caspian regions.
In addition, newly emerging areas of exploration such as the ‘down-dip’
compressional zones of deep-water slope basins will also be examined.
Contributions are invited from academia and industry which discuss 3D trap
geometry and evolution, integration of structural geology with petroleum
systems analysis, and the impact of structural deformation on reservoir
quality, field compartmentalisation, petroleum production and drilling in
these diverse tectono-stratigraphic settings.
Convenors:
Tim Needham (Rock Deformation Research, University of Leeds)
Rob Butler (School of Earth Sciences, University of Leeds)
Steve Matthews (BP).
We plan to have a combination of oral presentations and structured
discussions, together with an extensive poster session. Listings of
speakers, abstract deadlines and registration information will be in future
announcements.
