medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
i believe that the story of the talking venus can be found in roger of
wendover's flowers of history and in mathew paris--it comes after or before
the story of lady godiva's ride. the mathew paris version is in a short
version of his chronicle attributed first to someone named mathew of
westminster who was in fact mathew paris, but roger of wendover was the
earlier for the two.
