medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
From informal conversations and reading I am under the impression that one
of the current issues in Franciscan studies these days is the locality, or
regionality, of "Franciscan Ideology". That is, historians have generally
traced a changing and evolving set of ideals for the order through the
13th and 14th centuries, but historians are beginning to discern
differences in these ideals (or, one my say, in "Franciscan spirituality")
regionally instead of, or, as well as, temporally. Is this indeed a
current issue, and if so, can anyone send me to the bibliography that is
beginning to hash this out.
Many thanks in advance, as always, for help. This list, and the generosity
of those who subscribe to it, is indeed one of the best resources.
Cecilia Gaposchkin, Ph.D.
