medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
<< Murtagh (6th cent.?) Murtagh was an Irish bishop, according to varying
traditions either a convert of Patrick or a contemporary of Columcille
(probably the latter). He is regarded as the first bishop of Killala and as
the founder of the monastery of Innismurray. >>
I'm in way over my head - having absolutely no credentials in this field at
all (unless retired engineer/confirmed Hibernophile is a qualification) - but
I believe that, while Inishmurray was named after St. Muireadhach........it
was actually founded by St. Laisrén, AKA Mo-Laisse in the early 6th century.
