As part of our Best Value Review, one of the suggestions from a non library
colleague is for the library service to reduce costs by buying secondhand
books. This suggestion is being taken seriously by the Review team and I
have been tasked with investigating for our improvement (?) plan. Other
than for filling gaps in specialist collections e.g. local studies, does any
authority buy secondhand stock? Where is it sourced from and what are the
issues? All comments welcome.
A second suggestion is franchising, particuarly our video collections. Does
anyone franchise space in their libraries? What is franchised and how did
you go about it?
Thanks.
