medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thank you Margaret. It seems that Margrete is still 'in the running'.
To answer your question, my original query did not require an 'officially'
canonized saint! In fact, I am looking at locally recognized saints. At
the moment, whether or not Rome accepted them has no bearing on my project.
Even if Margrete was only known to the area around Roskilde, it would still
be helpful to me! If anyone knows of calendars from Roskilde, that might be
very helpful!
In response, to your Swedish/Danish comparison - in fact, there are many
Swedish women saints BEFORE Birgitta and her order. These women were
undoubtably wealthy (although others were nuns) - perhaps that has something
to do with it. But were there not wealthy Danish women who could donate
land/resources to monasteries? I find this incredible constrast rather hard
to believe!
Yours,
Sara
