Dear all,
As a non-native English speaker, I am experiencing great difficulty with
the terms compression, extension, transpression, transtension used as
adjectives. More in particular, is it compressive deformation or
compressional deformation? Transpressive shear or transpressional shear?
And are there any exceptions? For instance, extensional collapse sounds
right to me (which, off course, is no reference), but on the other hand,
so does transpressive movement.
Could anyone enlighten me on that matter please?
Many thanks in advance,
Tim
