and the bibliograpies in Suzanne Lewis, Reading Images, and
L.F. Sandler, Gothic Manuscripts. There is much secondary
material on this subject, esp. for the Carolingian period
and the 12th century. See the biblio. in M. Biddle, The Tomb
of Christ, and the arts. on the cloister as Jerusalem in
Gesta 12 (1973). Also L. I. Levine, Jerusalem (Continuum
1999).
