medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all - This is a shameless request for help compiling a list of
monuments and bibliography for a public lecture (designed largely for
highschhol teachers of classics) on the
memory/uses/iconography of the Roman Empire in Byzantium and the West. I
am particularly looking for monuments, images, architecture which speaks
to the idea that one, or another, political system/dynasty/etc, was the
successor to Rome. Ravenna and Aachen being the obvious places to start.
I'd be very grateful to anyone who might point me in the direction of
good, recent treatments of this, esp, with good color photos from which I
might shoot slides.
with thanks in advance,
celia gaposchkin
