Dear Colleagues,
This is a call for papers for an upcoming issue of the Journal of Virtual
Explorer dedicated to the reconstruction of the evolution of the Alpine-
Himalayan orogen. We are urging researchers interested in the evolution of
the Alpine-Himalayan orogen, to submit contributions to this special volume.
The volume will be edited by Gideon Rosenbaum and Gordon Lister from the
Australian Crustal Research Centre at Monash University, Melbourne, and will
be published in early 2002. More details can be found on the web at:
http://www.virtualexplorer.com.au/VEjournal/Alp_Him/.
For this volume we are looking for papers that are concerned with:
1. field studies with conclusions that look towards the larger-scale
evolution of the Alpine-Himalayan chain;
2. numerical and laboratory studies that attempt to simulate its evolution;
3. studies of metamorphic petrology, igneous petrology and/or geochemistry
that attempt
to constrain the nature of the geodynamic environment;
4. the results of large-scale geophysical experiments that derive conclusions
as to its past and present 3D geometry;
5. large-scale syntheses that address issues associated with its kinematic
and structural evolution;
6. geochronological studies that constrain critical orogenic events.
We would like to stress the benefit of publication in the electronic
journal. The Journal of Virtual Explorer, (http://www.virtualexplorer.com.au/
VEjournal/) allow the publication of coloured photographs, maps and diagrams,
as well as reconstruction animation movies, which are otherwise not
publishable. In addition, the review process is significantly faster,
providing a relatively short period between submission and publication.
Please refer to the Instruction for Authors (http://
www.virtualexplorer.com.au/VEjournal/Instructions/index.html) for more
details about the submission and the review processes.
Authors are urged to submit an expression of interest in the form of a title
by the 30th September 2001. The final submission date for articles will be
the 31st December 2001. Articles submitted prior to this will be placed in
"Dynamic Review" on the web when they are received and may be referenced as
such.
Please do not hesitate to contact us concerning any suggestions or comments.
Sincerely yours,
Gideon Rosenbaum and Gordon Lister
