It is precisely this thought which I have discussed in my published paper. There
is no force per unit volume, there can only be charge per unit volume.
The theory as outlined by Landau & Lifschitz permits the conclusion that a
volume-neutral deformation does not cost work; and this cannot possibly be
correct.
