PhD Opportunity in Palaeomagnetism and Tectonics
We have a NERC studentship available for a project on palaeomagnetism
and structural studies of tectonic rotations in the Andean Margin.
The project will concentrate on determining the timing and nature of
crustal rotation in the Atacama desert of northern Chile. The project
will be focussed in the Coastal Cordillera/Precordillera area west of
the city of La Serena at 29S. Fieldwork will involve palaeomagnetic
sampling and structural geology while lab work will concentrate on
the palaeomagnetism and Ar-Ar dating.
The candidate should have an interest in structure and tectonics but
not necessarily a background in palaeomagnetism. Further details are
available on the department's website at
http://www.science.plymouth.ac.uk/DEPARTMENTS/geology/
NERC studentships are available to UK citizens and residents who
should hold a 2:1 + or an MSc. in a relevant subject.
Interested applicants should send a short statement of interest + CV
and the names of two referees
