Dear all,
Many thanks to you all for joining this list, and I hope that we can have
some fruitful discussions here.
I'm putting together an agenda for the meeting on 14 June, which I can now
confirm will be held at Milton Keynes and will start at 1.30pm. I am hoping
to finish the meeting at 4pm now, owing to the late start time.
I thought that the meeting could begin with some presentations from some of
the projects which will be represented at the meeting, including some
database demonstrations where possible and appropriate. This need only be
briet and informal.
The discussion can then be focussed around the matter of how applicable (or
not), the IMS Metadata Specification is within the UK Higher Education and
Further Education sectors.
If any of you have any particular matters relating to this which you would
like to discuss at the meeting, please do say so now, and I can add them to
the agenda.
Topics which have been suggested to me so far are:
1) The set of educational elements and difficulties in applying them in
practice - can they adequately describe FE/HE learning resources?
2) Problems with Taxonomy and controlled vocabularies - The taxonomies and
vocabularies recommended in the metadata best practice guide are not
suitable for classifying UK educational resources. We need controlled
vocabularies that accurately describe UK HE/FE concepts, terms and practice.
3) Interpreting the specification for non-technical users.
4) Harmonisation between the different IMS specifications.
5) Relating the IMS metadata specification to other metadata standards and
specifications.
That's all for now folks! I look forward to hearing from you all.
Jenny
