PhD Studentship: geographical surveillance in Public Health,
at the University of Sheffield
We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join an
expanding collaborative research team. The project will involve
application and evaluation of leading-edge methods to major public
health issues. Our established links with the NHS provide an
excellent opportunity for rapid implementation of the outcomes of
this project.
Geographical inequalities in health and health care are a major
cause for concern. There is a clear need for robust geographical
surveillance methods to identify existing and emerging variations in
health and health care and to assess the health impact of public
health interventions. A number of innovative methods have recently
been developed and the aim of this project will be to apply and
evaluate these methods to complex public health issues.
The School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at the
University of Sheffield is a centre of excellence for health services
research and involved in several national initiatives. The Centre for
Computational Geography at the University of Leeds is an
international leader in the development of novel geographical
analysis tools using highly intensive geocomputational methods.
