medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello.
I'm not a historian but a palaeontologist, writing historical fiction and
trying to get it right. My interest is currently late-medieval Scotland.
Can anyone point me towards the answer to this one? Much of the teaching in
Theology in the University of Glasgow at this date was done by the
Dominicans from the Blackfriars establishment next door. Would a teaching
friar at a public occasion (in this case, a feast) within the University
have worn his academic robes over his habit and if so how much of the
ensemble would he have worn? In May, when (even in 1492) Scotland has its
summer? Would the robes have been his own, or would they have belonged to
the Order?
The list is a superb collection. I'm really looking forward to browsing the
archive.
Best wishes,
Pat
