Dear List member
The Library + Information Show 2001 (5 - 7 June, NEC Birmingham) takes
place in 4 weeks time and we warmly invite you to attend.
In a change to the published programme the key note speaker will be Grace
Kempster, currently Head of Libraries, Information, Heritage and Cultural
Services for Essex CC but soon to be Director of Information Services
Management at the British Council. On the eve of her departure Grace will
look at the changing kaleidoscope of opportunity for library and
information professionals and why now is the time for the library world to
take on new responsibilities, new agendas - in brief to transform itself.
Grace Kempster replaces Alan Howarth MP who is now unable to attend due to
election commitments.
Talks of particular interest to lis-pub-libs are David Potts and Susi
Woodhouse from Resource discussing how the People's Network will adapt and
evolve in not only the immediate future but also the medium term; Linda
Berube from EARL talks on E-Empowering or E-Extinct? E-Books and public
libraries; Sandy Norman looks at Copyright, Consumers and Cyberspace and
Peter Beauchamp, DCMS's Chief Library Adviser and Gina Lane from Resource
head up a discussion on the implementation of the new Library Standards.
For full details about the talks at LiS, visit the website,
www.lishow.co.uk. You can also use the website to book appointments to see
exhibitors at the Show through the new Matchmaker service and to pre-
register for LiS. Entrance to the exhibition and lectures is free and the
closing date for pre-registrations is 21 May by post or 29 May if you
register on-line.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Show
