International Social Innovations Day
The Institute for Social Inventions and www.DoBe.org are jointly sponsoring
International Social Innovations Day for the first Tuesday in November each
year.
The proposal is that on this day you get together in the evening with people
in your area and have a brainstorm about socially innovatory and imaginative
ways to improve your locality, and either meet in a local restaurant or in a
local meeting place (in which case each person can bring food and drink to
share for a potluck meal afterwards).
Those wanting to help get this going should invite their friends, advertise
locally and sign up as interested on www.DoBe.org (under Social Innovationı
in the city of their choice - DoBe already covers cities in the UK and USA
and should soon cover many of the major cities in the world). Then people
can get together through e-mail or other means and plan a venue, again
posting the details on www.DoBe.org
Subscribers to the Institute for Social Inventions can ask to be put in
touch with other members locally by e-mailing [log in to unmask]; and the
Institute publications will provoke many ideas for the brainstorms
(subscriptions cost £15 in the UK, £17 overseas, from
www.globalideasbank.org/bookorder.html see also the sample ideas below).
The event is however open to everyone without charge.
The hope is that the International Social Innovations Day will bring social
entrepreneurs together from a variety of organisations and professions to
form informal local clubs that meet regularly for brainstorms and debates -
a club that travelling social entrepreneurs can make contact with via
www.DoBe.org so that it becomes a freemasonry for social innovators, a way
to support each other.
