Fascinating Scotty!
Happy Easter etc. Hope all's well at that end of the country. All's firing
here. Am back in town for a few weeks before back to Townsville to attend
the Hydrothermal Odyssey conference. Then, of all things, its back to the
Drummond Basin, as Delta has ground there. Strange how things come back to
haunt you.
Anyway, gotta go
Cheers
Brett

Subject: Re: 3D fold interference patterns
Giulio,
My colleague Ross Moore and I put together a Mathematica notebook to make
3-D graphics of any refolded folds, and also to display contour plots of
all
possible intersections of an infinite number of possible refolds. Perhaps
most useful from a teaching point of view, we also include a couple of
movies showing the progressive change of interference pattern as a
cut-plane
is rotated through a refolded fold. This will be published in the upcoming
May issue of Computers and Geosciences, and you can see a preliminary
version at the following URL.
http://www-texdev.mpce.mq.edu.au/GeoMath/
If you watch the following URL, and you have download access for Elsevier
journals, you can download the final version directly, or access the movies
etc there directly (should come up by May 1). A CD is being released with
the special - so one could access the movies without having online access
to
Elsevier journals. Of course, you can pull this stuff right off Ross's URL
given above.
http://www.elsevier.nl/gej-ng/10/13/38/show/toc.htt
Finally, in our paper you will find references to programs written in
Fortran and Pascal to do the same sorts of things - you will also find in
those other papers quite a few intersections (interference patterns)
through
fold sets of various orientations.
Hope these are helpful - Scott
