This is a term coined by David Slawson, MD of the University of Virginia and
Allen Shaughnessy, PharmD of Pinnacle Healthcare in Pennsylvania. It
describes an approach to the application of evidence-based medicine that
places an emphasis on identifying the most relevant material (POEMs or
Patient Oriented Evidence that Matters, i.e. information that reports
patient-oriented outcomes for common/important problems that would change
usual practice) and reducing work (by teaching physicians how to use high
quality secondary sources such as the Cochrane, Journal of Family Practice
POEMs, ACP Journal Club, Evidence-Based Practice newsletter and Bandolier).
I'll let them chime in if they have more to add. They have numerous articles
in BMJ and JFP and elsewhere describing these concepts - search PubMed on
their names jointly and you'll get a nice list.

Subject: "Information Mastery"
Does anyone know of a definition for the term, Information Mastery, as used
by physicians. The reference for the definition is needed. The see the term
used but I can't find an acceptable definition.
Thanks,
