medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear All,
The association of the Virgin with rose imagery is common enough, and
colleagues have drawn attention to key instances of this. Graham's problem,
however, seems to be its specific application to the Katherine references.
Could *rosa* not simply be understood as a term of endearment in the context
of the bell inscriptions he cites, or by the period in which these
inscriptions were made, had *rosa mundi*? perhaps come to be used more
generally of female saints?
Paul
