medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Many thanks to all who have been helping me with this elusive verb. In
fact, it appears to be my own (embarassing) mistake. My copy from the
Pat. Lat. clearly reads "udere" but this is, apparently, a faulty copy,
the "l" having been covered up by dust or otherwise made invisible in
the bound volume. At any rate, I would probably not have caught the error
had it not been for the keen minds of the list-serve.
Thank you!

> ludere oculis, rotare cervicem, comam spargere?' (Ambrose
