medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Elena,
I think that the terminology "constituitur ... persona" is clearly
juridical/legal and does not imply any modern (or possibly medieval)
notions of 'full-fledged personality', nor does it seem to state a "mere
banality". See in the current version of the Codex Iuris Canonici, I, can.
96: "Baptismo homo Ecclesiae Christi incorporatur et in eadem constituitur
persona" (online version http://www.prairienet.org/nrpcatholic/l1-203.html).
Our more expert members like Tom Izbicki will be able to quote the relevant
passage and appropriate glosses from sources of the medieval period.
Best,
Otfried
