medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear all
Martin of Braga is called saint, but I find that the on-line sources
(e.g. Catholic Encyclopedia) are silent as to why. Paper sources are
unavailable to me at the moment, until next summer back in Britain. Do
any of you know how he got sainted? Is or was there a cult? Were there
miracles? Against the Arians and Priscillians he seems to have been a
decent and very bright chap -- which is quite enough in my book. So did
he get it on a nod and a wink? In any case, he appears to have died of
old age, bless him, in an age when saints elsewhere were getting sliced
up pretty gorily.
