I did say in a follow up that I was a bit worried that the aikido metaphor
might be misunderstood and I apologise for any misunderstanding - but
several responses have shown that it was an apt metaphor: - letting people
raise their criticisms of EBM (attack) and then use them as a basis for
debate (jokingly referred to as flooring).
I prefer to think that I have an opinion based on research, experience and
personal knowledge rather than a preconception.
Research: I got information about the participants from the organisers
Experience: I have run an EBM journal club for GPs for over 2 years
Personal knwoledge: a GP myself I know what most of the GPs in my locality
think (they will form bulk of audience).
I see preparing your answers to questions likely to arise as planning rather
than setting up Us against Them. I am sorry that this was not clearer.
