medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I think your "several things at once" sums it up
nicely! If the beardless youth is on bearded man's
left, then I'd argue against Trinitarian interp.
Reconsidering several things, I suggest it could be a
very stylized and wholly symbolic representation of
the Crucifixion, not as it was but as its effects
remain in human history. I'll be eager to see other
responses you might receive. I also recommend joining
med-art. Type "medieval art discussion lists" in your
web browser search spot and you'll get to Harriet
Sonne's list eventually if not first. This is the sort
of question they like to chew on. However they're a
bit picky about "out there" interps. so don't be
discouraged if some shoot you down ;-)
