medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Amy,
You may already know this, but it could be helpful to know that the letters
INRI (= Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum (John xix.19–20, cf. Luke xxiii.38))
are referred to simply as the *Titulus Triumphalis* by some authors.
Best wishes,
Paul

INRI = I(esus) N(azarenus) R(ex) I(udaeorum), the initials of "Jesus of
Nazareth King of the Jews" (you might want to read the account of Christ's
passion in the gospels for background information, and to find out how the
inscription came about).
Cheers to Amy and to you all, Luciana
