medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dilectissimi sapientes
I'm actually working on the symbolic and imaginary links between Mary
and John the Batist, and I've read that if The Carms were founded by
Elias (foretelling the Immaculate conception of the Virgin), John the
baptist was the founder of the order of the temple or of the
Hospitallers. If I have a source for the former assertion (i'll give the
transcription to everybody who wants it), I've no other information
about the latter than a mention of "Guillaume de San Stefano" (14th
century)in Demurger's _vie et mort de l'ordre du temple_
Nothing easy in his bibliography, excepts the collections of "documents
relatifs..." in which I can easily (or desperately) be drowned. So my
request : Has anyone either the precise reference to Guillaume de San
Stefano's work, or an another source (earlier, but even later) of this
nice legend ?
Thanks to all
D.H.
