This is a bit out-of-period, but one of the routine charges made against
Oliver Cromwell and his lieges was that they "stabled their horses in the
church". Many of these charges may be propaganda [modern usage of word] but
it is clear that in the 17th C Catholic/Anglican tradition this was the sort
of desecration expected of the Puritain army.
