there was also, at paris, in front of the cathedral, a baptistry, dedicated to
St. John, was there not? i've never seen a reference to what the "purpose"
of st. stephen's was. just a place for the canons to go to get stoned, was
the consensis 35 years ago; but that idea is probably subject to revision,
nowadaze.
