Many thanks to all those who responded to my query about the Society of
Chief Librarians. I've been given the email address I need and it seems
that someone is on the job of maintaining it and we can expect to see an
updated site before too long.
One respondent pointed out that SCL is not alone among public library
sites in letting maintenance standards slip. It's true, as I can attest
from my peregrinations around the world of public library networking.
Starting a web site is easy but ongoing maintenance demands more
organisational effort than some libraries seem able to muster. Isn't it
even more important, though, if librarians want their concern for
information quality to be taken seriously?
I suppose I've given you all licence now to pick over our public library
listings site for dud links and inaccuracies. Well, you have a standing
invitation to do just that and help us keep it up-to-date:
