While perusing my web logs, I've just seen something that others who
offer on-line resources might like to ponder.
Here and there in my materials at http://www.mbeddow.net/german/ I
have "Geothe" as a completely accidental typo. I now see that during
the past week alone, six separate users have found my site precisely
because they typed "Geothe" into a search engine query form. Had they
used the correct spelling, they would not have found my work (mind
you, they might well have found a lot of better things instead, so
though it's good news for me, it isn't necessarily so for them).
Just before writing anything complicated on the blackboard, my canny
old German teacher used to say "Jetzt aufgepasst! Ich mach irgendwo
ganz bewusst wenigstens einen Fehler.." (Looking back now, I find the
"wenigstens" particularly endearing). Maybe that approach should be
extended to Web sites.
