I've used Reference Manager (now up to version 9.5) for years and it does
everything I need it to do. Most useful feature is you can do a literature
search online, internet or CDROM and "squirt" your references into Refman.
The current version allows you to search PubMed from where you can similarly
download your references.
Perhaps the most useful feature you'll find (I guess) when you're writing
your thesis is that you cite references as you write and when finished, the
software automatically produces a reference list (in whatever format you
specify). The program really comes to the fore when you start inserting and
deleting references - the reference list is automatically (some would say
miraculously!) adjusted to take account of the changes! Details at:
