Incidentally, lest anyone think otherwise, Eamon Duffy is no traditionalist Catholic waxing nostalgic for the good old days--his critique of Jungmann and the liturgical movement of the 20thc is not based on that, rather, is based on his perception that the medieval developments Jungmann studied were not sufficiently interpreted in their medieval context. Likewise, Gamber's work needs to be evaluated on its merits as historical scholarship.
