I referred to the English National Opera's production of "Orpheus in the
Underworld" in
which entrance into Hades was obtained by passing through the guard dog
Cerberus's mouth and out through his bottom.
It seems I erred in attributing the set design to Ralph Steadman. It was in
fact Gerald Scarfe. Late 1980s. I gather it was premiered in USA 1986-7
by Michigan Opera Theatre.
my apologies to all. On this list you can't get away with claiming it was a
long time ago...
