The interesting information offered in this conversation recall to me a
throwaway detail in Jacopo Stefaneschi's ceremonial (early 14th century),
clearly stating that the water to be used in the ceremonial washing of
cardinal's feet by the pope was to be 'callida'.
So it wasn't just air temperature that was a concern!
