'GETTING ON WITH YOUR SYSTEMATIC REVIEW'

Aims of the course
The course aims to give health professionals the skills necessary to
conduct rigorous systematic reviews of research evidence. Participants will
be expected to be in the process of performing a systematic review, and
will have the opportunity to proceed with their own review as part of the
course.
Course content
All aspects of the process of systematic reviewing are covered, with an
emphasis on clinical trials of health interventions.
Sessions include:-
· question formulation
· searching skills
· inclusion and exclusion criteria
· quality assessment
· data extraction
· data synthesis
· dissemination and implementation
· the Cochrane Collaboration
Teaching is by a combination of plenary seminars, small group work and
individual work on participants' own review topics.
Tutors on the course will members of the Systematic Reviews Training Unit,
and the Centre for Evidence Based Child Health, as well as invited guests
from outside the institute.
Who should attend?
The course is open to anyone conducting a systematic review of a health
care intervention. It is particularly suited to those undertaking a review
with a Cochrane Collaborative Review Group, and who have attended a
Cochrane protocol development workshop or similar.
Application procedure and cost
The cost of the course is £450, which includes tuition fee, lunch,
refreshments and course documents.

Places are awarded partly on the basis of the nature of applicants'
reviews, and not on a first come, first served basis.
