Invitation to tender for research on respite care provision for people with
MS
The MS Society wishes to rapidly evaluate the core business of specialist
respite care for people with MS, offered by its homes in terms of cost,
efficiency, quality, usage, and effectiveness. This would need, over time,
to be compared with other models of respite care, but in the short term it
is planned to compare it with a domiciliary-based respite care scheme for
people with MS and carers. The latter is not currently funded by the
Society, but there are close historical associations, and the Society is
committed to understanding more of its potential application to other areas
and user groups.
Commissioning of research
The Society wishes to commission independent academic research that will
examine usage, quality and effectiveness of its respite care.
Timetable
The Society wishes to have information for decision making in Autumn 2001.
It is therefore proposed that the first phase of research to be commissioned
will focus on the 'formal' respite provided by the homes and centres, and
the domiciliary scheme.
Proposals for the research should be submitted by February 16th 2001, with
the aim of commencing by April 2001 at the latest.
Reports will be required during the course of the research, at approximately
eight weekly intervals.
Budget
The budget available will be circa £35,000. This does not include the cost
of the mapping and directory drafting.
