Could one reason for the demise be that initial hype over EBM is over, and
we all have come to realize that a few simple rules will not be sufficient
to understand if evidence is credible or not. What remains is the hard work
(e.g. searching, appraising, synthesizing, etc)?
Speaking about the hard work, may I ask has anyone developed EBM search
filters for Palm platform. When I try to do MEDLINE search using Palm VIIx,
I seem not to be able to get Clinical Queries page on PubMed. Would
appreciate any help. Thanks.

By all means we need to see all the replies. It is a fairly simple process
to delete replies to questions in which one has no interest. In my Microsoft
Outlook, I have the option of hitting "reply", which sends the reply only to
the person posting the question, or "reply to all", which sends the reply
both to the list and to the person. If my reply is very specific, I start an
aside correspondence with just the person; if my reply seems to be of more
general interest, I send it to the list. I've noticed that sometimes
questioners ask for the replies to be sent to them personally, with the
promise that they will later post a summary of the useful replies. This is
very efficient, but can be a burden on the person doing the summarizing if
there are alot of good replies.

Subject: The demise of discussion in this list
Dear List
Everyone has noticed that there is much less discussion on this list
recently.
The reason is that replies to individual questions go directly to the author
of the query rather than to the list.
(If you press the reply button for this letter your reply comes
directly to me rather than to EBM. Everyone gets the question but not to
read the answers)
The advantage is that mail boxes are not stuffed full everyday with
discussion that
is of little interest to them.
The disadvantage is that the list is a lot less lively than during the
"Numbers Needed to Pray" controversy.
I for one learnt a lot about subjects in which I initially thought I had
little interest.
Are not people who join discussion groups like that?
Wonder if we could take a straw vote on what list members prefer.
Remember dont press just the reply button but copy your replies to EBM.
