Barry:
I seem to remember that Hildegard Howard's Avifauna of Emerville Shellmound,
which contains the classic, still valuable set of illustrations of bird bones
with all the associated terminology, used the Golden Eagle as one of the
birds illustrated. I'm not aware of any study specifically comparing the two
eagles. You might try contacting Dave Steadman (New York State Museum) or
Steve Emslie (U. North Carolina?) to see if they know of anything. Emslie
especially has described a number of Plio-Pleistocene eagles, and would know
if such a study has ever been published.
