Research Assistant / Associate:
Transport Infrastructure, Medical Technology, and Safety
The Centre for Transport Studies seeks a research assistant for an EPSRC
funded project to evaluate the impact of road infrastructure and medical
technology improvements on traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
The key objective of this study is to conduct a statistical analysis of how
road infrastructure elements, such as lane widths, curvature, relative
capacity, and other features affect traffic-related fatalities and injuries.
The analysis will seek to control for demographic and other factors known to
also influence traffic fatalities and injuries. One of these that will be
investigated in detail is the role of improvements in medical technology
over time.
We are seeking a research assistant to collect and organize the relevant
databases, perform statistical analyses, and also conduct analyses with
geographic information systems. The successful candidate should have
experience with large databases and the ability to write computer programs
in Fortran, Pascal or C++. It is expected that research papers on the work
will be co-written and presented by the successful candidate.
Applicants should have a Masters degree or a PhD with a background in
Transport, Economics, Geography, Regional Science, Planning, Public Policy,
Health Policy or a closely related field. A multi-disciplinary background
is an advantage. The successful applicant will work under the supervision
of Dr. Robert Noland at the Centre for Transport Studies.
The post is available for a period of up to 1 year and will be remunerated
at the RA1A / RA1B scale of £18,909 - £27,347 (inclusive of London
Weighting).
