As many of you may be aware, the Transportation Research Group conducted a
survey of drivers immediately following the September 2000 fuel crisis in
an attempt to capture information on changes to daily routine and travel
patterns and more broadly to gain new insights into car dependence. We are
aware of others who have also been studying the fuel tax protests.
We have been offered the opportunity to produce a book concerning transport
lessons from the fuel tax protests that would represent a collective
account of the topic including papers from a number of different authors.
The coverage of such a book within this remit could be broad, addressing
other countries beyond the UK, the general issue of fuel taxation, the
problems of conducting emergency surveys etc.
At this stage we are keen to establish the level of interest in terms of
potential authors of papers. If you consider you may have a relevant paper
to contribute please send us brief details including provisional title,
authorship and a short description of the paper.
We would be very grateful if you could draw this message to the attention
of any colleagues outside of UTSG for whom this may be of interest.
Regards,
Glenn Lyons
