John, I sympathise deeply with your plight -- something along the same
lines happened to me a couple of years ago (albeit on a much smaller
scale) when I arrived back from a Christmas break to discover the water
tank in the loft had disgorged all over the workstations and servers in my
office.
But something else in your posting worried me somewhat. Not perhaps in
the class of flood damage worry, but:

Do you mean that the course was geared not to Pascal in general (using,
for example, a free cross-platform Pascal compiler like the one at
http://www.freepascal.org) but to a specific commercial Pascal that only
runs on a particular processor?
This seems to me old '80s-style badness. Or am I missing something?
